[DRAFT] Why We Redesigned Our Homepage - and Built It Like a Story Feed

We committed to light mode

The old homepage mixed light and dark sections. It wasn't bad-looking, but it sent a signal we didn't intend. Dark interfaces read as systems - dashboards, developer tools, something you get onboarded into. That aesthetic belongs to products built for IT teams.

Social WiFi isn't one. The people who land on our homepage run cafés, bars, hotels, restaurants and shopping centres. They're marketing managers and owners, not network engineers. A dark, technical-looking page quietly tells them "this is complicated, and probably not for you."

So we went fully light, and we added colour. Each feature now has its own treatment - green for data gathering, blue for email, warm amber for reviews, purple for complaints, pink for loyalty. Colour does real work here: it turns six abstract features into six distinct, recognisable ideas rather than one grey block of product marketing.

Six tiles - and what happens when you tap one

Directly under the headline there's a row of six tiles: Data Gathering, Email Marketing, Positive Reviews, Complaint Management, Customer Loyalty and WhatsApp Marketing. On desktop they sit side by side. On mobile they're a rail you scroll with your thumb.

The part we're most curious about is what happens when you tap one.

It doesn't send you to a sub-page. It opens a full-screen story - the same interaction most people use every day on Instagram. Roughly six cards, a segmented progress bar along the top, tap to move to the next one, X to leave. Each story walks through one feature from start to finish, and the final card offers the other stories, so you can jump straight into the next one instead of being dropped back where you began.

Getting through a whole feature takes about as long as watching a friend's story.
